Holy Trinity C of E Primary School

To be the best we can be – for God, for others and for ourselves

Year 1

Welcome to Year 1!

Following the introduction of the new National Curriculum in September 2014, we have produced a 'Topic Web' which outlines what will be covered in each subject relating, wherever possible, to the 'topic' during the half term.

The Topic Webs, together with Key Learning in Year 1, can be found by clicking the link below - Year 1

Every parent who attended the 'Meet the Teacher' meeting will have received a leaflet outlining the new National Curriculum expectations for children at the end of Year 1 - which can also be found below.

Children should read at home every night. We listen to children read as frequently as possible and collect their home reading books in throughout the week. Please sign and date your child's reading diary if you have listened to them read at home.

Spelling/ Handwriting

Children's spelling and handwriting homework is sent out on a Monday and is due on the Friday of the same week.

Children will need their PE Kits in school every Tuesday and Thursday for PE. PE takes place on a Tuesday afternoon with Miss Hale and on  a Thursday morning with Mrs Babcock.

The Autumn Term in Year 1

This term we have been very busy exploring seasonal change and also investigating different types of creatures in our Science Topics. We have been lucky enough to go on a trip for each topic. In October, we went to Hesketh Park to observe the changes in the environment during the Autumn. We had great fun and used our special collection bags to gather lots of Autumn things.

In November, we went on a trip to Farmer Teds. We got to see different types of mammals and reptiles. We had a lovely surprise and even saw some reindeers! Also, we went on a brilliant tractor ride and were able to go on the climb and slide!
