Following the introduction of the new National Curriculum in September 2014, we have produced a 'Topic Web' which outlines what will be covered in each subject relating, wherever possible, to the 'topic' during the half term.
The Topic Webs, together with Key Learning in Year 1, can be found by clicking the link below - Year 1
Every parent who attended the 'Meet the Teacher' meeting will have received a leaflet outlining the new National Curriculum expectations for children at the end of Year 1 - which can also be found below.
‘Finding Nemo’ Fish Tank in Year 1
Our great tropical fish contractors, Aqualease, who provide and maintain our fish tank in the main seating area of school, have installed a ‘Finding Nemo’ fish tank in Year 1, containing many of the favourite species from the famous film. We have a clown fish, two anemones, a hermit crab and a shrimp, as well as other tropical creatures.
The tank is here for six weeks to engage the children in their Year 1 Topic of ‘Creatures’ and they love our new pets! Here are a couple of Year 1 children to tell us all about the tank and its inhabitants.
‘It’s like a little ocean. In the tank we have real fish with different colours. Two fish are orange and white, and one has black and white stripes and there is one yellow fish. It’s a baby. We fed the fish today and the food stinks! We wrote some letters to the fish’
