Home learning guidance letter from Miss Carrigan

Home Learning

In line with the government’s decision to close schools, I have prepared a series of learning opportunities for the children in Year 3. The children will have maths, English and reading activities set weekly to complete in their exercise books. I have also attached a range of useful websites that you may want to use for additional work. I will use Class Dojo to send work reminders, any useful tips and to communicate with parents. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

The reading comprehension I have set this week has 3 different options to choose from. The text (and questions) either have 1, 2 or 3 stars. This refers to how difficult the questions are. I would recommend that everyone has a go at the middle text and questions with 2 stars. If this is too hard have a go at the 1 star and if it is too easy, have a go at the 3 stars.

Please complete up to page 5 of the place value booklet this week.

Remember, there are additional activities you can access through the links if you want to complete additional work.

I have set two SPAG activites this week. The direct speech activity will help the children with their extended writing task.

The children should have completed up to page 5 of the maths booklet from last week. Please complete up to page 10 of the place value booklet this week.

Easter holidays

A big thank you for the many positive messages received from parents about your children's response to the remote learning resources organised by Miss Carrigan and Mrs Singleton. Please take the next two weeks as a family break and enjoy the warmer weather. You can of course still also access the online resources on our class page.

Please bear in mind the challenge to mental well being that the current crisis presents and make sure your child has lots of down time to relax, exercise, play, read and keep in touch with extended family/ friends (remotely).

I have attached an Easter bingo challenge activity that you may want to use with your children. Please also see the Children's University Spring activities that your child might want to complete to earn some additional credits.

Following the two week Easter break, the children's work will be published, like normal, on our class page for the coming week.

Wishing Year 3 a Happy Easter and thanks again for your support.

Children's University Spring Challenges

Below are some Children's University Challenges that can be completed at home to earn additional credits.

There is also an extra weekly challenge that can earn you 2 more credits! These images are also available on the Latest News Page on our website home page. If you have any issues please contact the school office or our Children's University representative Laura at laura.ashcroft@elevate-ebp.co.uk .

Taste tasting different breads for our healthy sandwiches that we are going to make in DT. Yum yum!

World Book Day in Year 3!

Year 3 have been learning lots about Stone Age life. We pretended to be hunter- gatherers and made our own Stone Age tools.

Year 3 have worked really hard to design, make and evaluate their photo frames. Well done Year 3!

After lots of practice, Year 3 performed their poem they created based on 'The Sound Collector'. We used facial expressions, sound effects and instruments to keep a steady beat. Please look at our Twitter page to see a video of our performance!

Today Year 3 went on a 'sound walk' around school to listen to sounds. We are collecting sounds to use in our poem.

Year 3 have been learning about human skeletons.

Can you spot Eric?
